To celebrate the 70th anniversary, we developed a face-swapping photo booth for a long-term installation in the anniversary exhibition at the German Sports and Olympic Museum. Beyond the fun factor, the goal was to strengthen the fans' sense of connection with the 1. FC.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary, we developed a face-swapping photo booth for a long-term installation in the anniversary exhibition at the German Sports and Olympic Museum. Beyond the fun factor, the goal was to strengthen the fans' sense of connection with the 1. FC.

The Challenge

In light of the 70th anniversary, the club's history was meant to be revisited and showcased in an exhibition at the German Sport and Olympic Museum. For this presentation, FC commissioned two digital initiatives from us. The idea of a Virtual Reality Museum (VR Museum) was born. With our SnapClassic photo booth, we developed a photo morphing event. Museum visitors could take a complimentary Augmented Reality photo to take home as a keepsake.

AR Photo Morphing

For this photo morphing feature, we pre-shot photos of Toni Schumacher and Timo Horn, edited them in Photoshop to allow face-swapping with visitors' faces using face recognition technology.

The face recognition software identifies relevant facial features as a trapezoid, extracts these areas from the source image, and overlays them onto the target image. The software can also adjust facial proportions, profile, and other aspects, allowing everyone to experience feeling like Toni Schumacher or Timo Horn.

Conclusion

With our integrated instant printer, visitors were able to take their personal FC photo home, sharing their unforgettable FC memory with others. Our Classic photo booth, alongside 1. FC Köln, provided fun, excitement, enthusiasm, and lasting memories. Fans of 1. FC probably still have their personal photo hanging on their refrigerator today as a souvenir.
